Carolyn Louise Weddings is a wedding planning and styling business for couples who are busy professionals and/or business owners who simply don’t have enough time to plan their wedding.
Based in South Wales, owner and wedding planner, Carolyn plans weddings for couples who live all over the world but choose to get married in the UK, predominantly across South Wales, Cotswolds or the South West of England.
My business started trading in 2018 after many years of dreaming about starting my own business. I actually registered the company (Carolyn Louise Limited) in 2016 before my 30th birthday but it still took me another two years to take that leap of faith and quit my full time job.
At Carolyn Louise Weddings we believe that everyone should remember their wedding for all the right reasons. I help remove the overwhelm, stress and anxiety that wedding planning can bring, allowing my clients to enjoy the fun parts of planning their special day. Every couple receives a bespoke quote and service from me, depending on their needs and budget – every couple has their own personal style and personality so I ensure that this is threaded throughout their wedding day so it is as unique as they are.
“Carolyn helped us with planning and on the day coordination for our wedding, in June 2019. We had the wedding in Bristol, even though we now live in the States. Carolyn was so accommodating, meeting with various family members in Bristol and doing Skype calls with us to get everything ready. She was so helpful and understanding, helping us to design an eco-friendly wedding and meet various dietaryrequirements.
On the day, it made such a positive difference to have Carolyn around and doing so much behind the scenes to get everything ready. The tables, decorations, etc. looked perfect and we didn’t worry for a minute with the unexpected delay of the band, because she was immediately communicating with them and helped them to set up so quickly no one even noticed!
Everyone was so impressed with the detailed schedule she sent to the wedding party, and she was so patient and lovely when we changed things around right beforehand and even on the day slightly! A huge thanks, and we would highly recommend Carolyn Louise Weddings!” – Bride & Groom.
Following my dreams and starting my own business has been the scariest but most empowering and liberating experience of my life! It definitely has its ups and downs and I don’t think I appreciated how long it takes to build a business, it definitely takes persistence and a lot of positivity. I think it’s so important to celebrate each little success as you go along as it allows you to appreciate how far you’ve come, even if you haven’t reached your ultimate goal yet.
The thing I love most about being my own boss is the flexibility and freedom it gives me. It did take me a while to get out of the 9-5 mindset I can assure you, at the start it was like I had to be sat at my desk for 8 hours a day! I’m much more aware of when and how I work best which definitely helps me be more productive and get things done.
As a new business with little cash flow, the main challenge has been knowing what the spend my money on in terms of marketing. I did a lot of research and I’m lucky that there is a great online community of wedding planners where if I was never sure on whether to invest in something,I could ask more experienced wedding planners.
The biggest lesson I have learnt in business is being able to say no! And the best advice given to me is to listen to my intuition and if you need help, ask for it.
I love self-development books and one of my favourites is The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks because he helps you recognise potential self-sabotaging behaviour and helps you smash through your glass ceiling and work in your zone of genius!
The next step for Carolyn Louise Weddings is to continue with the growth of the company, secure more clients each year and raise my brand awareness and reputation within the wedding industry and secure more bookings each year.
