OnePlus has slowly but surely stuck its foot into the smartphone market!
By releasing phones choked full with flagship features which are sold for a fraction of the typical flagship price, they have been able to create a great niche for themselves and with all of the information we’ve received about their next flagship (and boy has there been a river full of leaks and rumors!), it is safe to say that the trend will not be bucked. Not yet at least.
So, if you have been wondering about the OnePlus 7, here’s a compilation of all the credible rumors and leaks – specs, appearance, cost, and expected release date – we have come across so far.
OnePlus 7: Release date
OnePlus has now officially confirmed the release date of its next flagship “series”, and it is only a few days from now. The company will be organizing a launch event on May 14 in Bangalore, London, and New York, which will stream live around the world. The Chinese launch event will be staggered by two days and will hold on May 16.
Once the launch is out of the way, the phone will almost immediately be put on sale. OnePlus is yet to confirm when the phone will be hitting their online store, but T-Mobile has confirmed the OnePlus 7 Pro will be gracing their in-store shelves and online store from May 17.
OnePlus 7: Features and specifications
OnePlus has deviated a bit from what we have now come to know as protocol for them with the OnePlus 7. Rather than the traditional release of the 7 and then a later release of the modified ‘T’ version, OnePlus has confirmed it will be releasing what it calls the ‘OnePlus 7 series’, which is expected to contain three phone variants – the OnePlus 7 Standard, Pro, and Pro 5G.
We can once again expect a smartphone powerhouse with the superfast Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. While the standard and pro versions will pair this with the X24 modem, the Pro 5G version is expected to pair this processor with the X50 modem for faster connectivity.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau promises a really smooth and fast experience, and while we can expect the standard to feature a 6GB RAM, the Pro and Pro 5G are expected to go as high as 10GB to 12GB of RAM.
A highly anticipated 90Hz display refresh rate is expected on the Pro versions, further improving the speed and display of the device. Indeed, Geekbench gives the device a score of 11,101, which means it will be faster than the Galaxy S10+.
The Pro models have also been confirmed to carry three rear end cameras (potentially 5Mp + 20Mp + 48Mp), while the standard OnePlus 7 carries two rear end cameras. Confirmed reports point to the camera coming with 10X digital zoom and 3X optical zoom capabilities, which should be an improvement over the previous 2X telephoto shooters.
Other unconfirmed specifications point to a 4,000mAh battery for the Pro versions, as well as dual stereo speakers, USB 3.1, UFS 3.0 storage, and support for the OnePlus 30-watt Warp Charge standard.
The display is also really exciting and has been awarded a HDR10+ specification for ultra viewing experience. While OnePlus’ move for a totally notch-free bezel-less screen may see the debut of a pop-up selfie camera.
OnePlus 7: Price
There is as yet no official statement on the cost of the OnePlus 7 series, but we can expect a slight increase on the 6T for the base model as has been their tradition. Leaks from Ishan Agarwal supposedly places the base model at £450.
Other unconfirmed reports place the Pro model anywhere from £500 to £700. For now, though, we can be fairly certain that the OnePlus 7 will make for a better deal than other conventional flagships with similar features.
