Credit card services trailblazers Mastercard, have revealed that they are working on a new feature which lets its users open, manage and pay off their tabs at partnership bars and pubs, entirely though their smartphones and without the need to physically hand over any credit cards.

It’s called “The Open Tab Feature” and it will serve as an upgrade to Mastercard’s current Qkr payment service, in a bid to improve customer services from the bar owners perspective and also to save their customers precious “Closing off a tab” time, which can be used better by staff who could be serving more tables and for customers want to leave the establishment quicker.

Speaking on why the new feature was necessary – Betty DeVita the head of Mastercard’s Qkr system said: “We heard from so many bars and pubs who always have a number of credit cards left at the end of the evening, and we thought, we know how to address this”

Forget about leaving your driver’s license and credit card behind the cash register, this is the new way forward!
