If you could by a vacation home anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? I’ll tell you my answer. The place that has captured my heart sits in the Atlantic ocean. It is a group of islands which was discovered by Portuguese sailors, right around the 14th century – the magical island of Azores.
A peaceful and unspoiled set of islands characterised by their subtropical climate, which average around 17c all year round – apart from the summer months of July, August and September, where the temperatures can raise up to 25c.
The main habited islands in Azores are the Ilha de São Miguel, Terceira, São Jorge, Pico and Faial, which means there’s a lot of great options when it comes to where you’d want to visit and that’s not a bad thing!
Even if it’s not the hottest place on earth, its magical green landscape, warm waters and secluded feel more than make up for that. One would get lost exploring all the islands have to offer. From thermal springs, to hidden caves, natural thermal pools formed by 4 different rivers. Several natural parks, endless mountain landscapes, volcanoes, museums, plantations, old villages, beautiful beaches and boundless natural escapades.
Another contributive factor to why I’d like to have a holiday home there, is the fact that there isn’t a lot of tourists during low season and with flights costs from the UK to the islands starting at £50 one way, it’s easy to jet between one place to another conveniently.
